A Simple Art Therapy Practice: Taking Out the Stingers
This was one of the ways I processed my emotions today.
When I feel overwhelmed — angry, sad, or anxious —
I don’t try to analyze it.
I don’t try to explain it.
Instead, I imagine something from childhood:
Bees.
I used to be terrified of them.
The buzzing. The stingers. Their unpredictability.
They felt like danger.
So now, when emotions flood in,
I imagine I’ve been stung,
And then, in my mind,
I start removing the stingers.
One by one.
For me, it really helps.
The tightness in my chest begins to ease.
The tension in my mind softens.
You can try it too!!
Not with bees — maybe something from your own life:
a memory, an image, a fear that shaped you.
Is there something your body still remembers —
something that could help it understand what you’re feeling now?
Sometimes, we don’t need big answers.
Just a small image,
and a few quiet moments —
to start feeling like ourselves again.
